Emerson’s Transparent Eye Ball

I took this photo the other day while playing in the sand. Reminded me of Emerson’s famous quote about him becoming “the transparent eye-ball” of God and thought I’d share it here.

“Standing on the bare ground, – my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite spaces, – all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or particle of God.” – from Nature, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1836
